For all the challenges that IndyCar faces, it doesn't need the constant erosion in credibility that stems from the laughable officiating.

Brian Brainfart has painted himself into a corner on several occasions with his contrived rules and complete lack of consistency on calls.
It's time for him to step away and put an ex driver in the stewards chair.

Someone who would call a spade a shovel...
Pancho Carter comes to mind.

Pancho Carter thread hijack: Back in the mid-late 60's I was a teenage pit rat for a friend's father's TQ. Every summer Pancho & Dana Carter would roll in from California in a motorhome towing a California style Kurtis 4-bar TQ - air cooled Honda engine, Weber carbs, engine turned gold leaf numbers, Kandy paint jobs, Halibrand magnesium wheels, chrome front axles & radius rods, the works. And oh by the way, they were also fast and Dana could drive. We were one of the locals, second generation (third if you counted us rats) TQ'ers. 4 bar chassis built from chromemoly tubing scrounged from scrapped Army Air Corp trainers and a liquid cooled Crosley engine with Triumph Amal carbs on a homemade manifold. But our guy was also fast and we had the benefit of an unspoken permissiveness in certain areas of rules enforcement. Like the UMRA officials looked the other way when the car was running on nitromethanol. After practice our car owner would huddle with the driver then turn to one of us and say "we need a gear change, go get me one of those little Dixie cups". On nitro the Crosley would belch a 3 foot long blue flame out the exhaust. The fumes brough tears to the eyes of everyone within 50 yards. Sadly, Dana was killed in TQ pavement race a couple of years later at the Kittley Ave Speedrome in Indy.
