I'm with you on walking, or at least a very slow drive-around with opportunities to stop and get out. Not only do I get a better feel for the surface and camber, but I get a better sense of the sight pictures through the corners (especially when trying to learn a new track). On a van-around, they go by too quickly, and if you're in the back of the bus where I usually end up,
fuggeddaboudid.
I got a lot better at Road Atlanta and Sebring once I walked them. Lime Rock it apparently didn't help. I still crashed.
