Road America, August 1997. Just a day or two after the CART race so the track was stil lin 'pro' mode, and that was the last year before all the concrete and catch fencing.
The two things that stand out are:
Day 1 - Feeling like I was doing 242mph behind the Neon pace car in about third gear...
Day 2 - My 17th birthday, and it rained. Everyone else wasn't thrilled by it but I was grinning like an idiot under my visor in the pits, and one of the mechanics came over and gave me (friendly)abuse because I'd been hoping for rain the day before. The first few laps I *loved* it but then got a little overconfident. Biiiiiig understeer in Turn 7(which I was fine with, and stayed on the road) and then a bit brave in Canada Corner. Big entry speed, deep in the gravel.
