Racing suits

I do not own a racing suit, but I may end up with a kart at the end of the season. My question is wether anyone here has a race suit that pulls double duty, say formula skip barber and karting. Is it even allowed?

Re: Racing suits

Karting suits are designed to be abrasive resistant if you flip or get tossed out of your kart and cost anywhere from $100 - $500
Racing suits are designed to be fire resistant and made from Nomex making them less abrasive resistant and cost from about $3000 to over $1,500

You are free to use a full Nomex racing suit in karting (and it's done all the time) but you are putting a much more expensive garment at risk for something it wasn't really intended to do. You many not use a karting suit in a race car because it doesn't have the fire protection required.

If you're going to race cars you can certainly use your race suit in both kinds of vehicles but it will be much more expensive to replace the racing suit if it is compromised in a kart flip or ejection.

Nevah would I even dream of putting words in Duo's mouth...but I think he means $300 to $1500+. Either that or I'm going to save up for the $.50 driver's suit.

Re: Racing suits

I was afraid of that, thanks for the reply. I am trying to go back to Skip Barber Road Atlanta this spring; and while the coveralls they provide are stylish, I would prefer something that didn't slide up to my knees every time I climbed into the car.
