Barber Motorsports Park - Fan Rating

I was considering going over to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham the weekend after next for the GrandAm / IRL event. Does anyone have feedback about watching a race there? I've heard from Mike Waters that the facility is beautiful, and it looks like a really neat track. But, is it a good place to watch a race? Also, if anyone's thinking about going, please let me know. Thanks, gdr

No personal experience but have only heard good things about the track and its setting. Looks like being at the higher elevations might give you the maximum site lines but have no idea if that's practically possible. Here's a link to track maps.

If you have a chance to go, do not miss the opportunity. It is a fantastic facility, all hillside viwing and the museum is a definite "must see." It is one of the finest facilities in NorthAmerica.

+1 to Dick's comments. One of the best spectator tracks ever and an amazing museum. If you really like that kinda stuff, put a whole afternoon aside for the museum and you'll still be amazed as you turn every corner.

Re: Barber Motorsports Park - Fan Rating

I agree, well worth the trip. I ran the Skippy National there in 2008, and then hung around to watch the Grand-Am race. VERY fan friendly place. Good hillside sightlines, and a nice tram that runs around the perimeter of the track so it is easy to move from place to place without having to hike 5 miles. And the weather will probably be more civilized in April than it was for a mid-July event.
