Question Team Juicy Site Slow?

TJR has been slow loading pages, images, not loading pages at all, 401 errors, etc. I know I have been experiencing these problems, are some or all of you having similar problems? Site seems better since last night though, still on the slow side but better.

Hosting co. took the "not us, a network problem, trunks from certain ISP's the culprit, blah blah blah". After really pressing him it seems they were culpable to some extent so we'll see if kicking the server has any positive effect.

Another procedure that is overdue is an upgrade and reinstallation of the V Bulletin (our program) software. It will require the site be down for several hours, will probably do this late, late night in a couple days, we'll keep you posted.

Pls let us know if you have been having any of the problems described above and your city/state if you don't mind (to compare to Host's claims).......thanks

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

Doug, this morning things seem almost "normal" but yesterday, especially in the afternoon, it was just as you described. Slow loading, 401 errors, etc.

Located in Northernmost New Jersey (far far away from Sopranoland)

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

It was painfully slow yesterday. A bit better this a.m., but still no where near typical performance.

In Manhattan I echo what Dick said. Painfully slow yesterday... medium slow today.

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

not just slow, slow, slow, but wouldn't load pages at all yesterday. Lots of Internal Server errors, which I don't think they can blame on the trunks. I just gave up trying. Just logging on this AM and seems normal so far but we'll see....

maybe they've been riding my bus...

Lexington, KY (for the time being)

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

I completed a total upgrade of the entire website software systems today. Let me know if it has solved the problems we've been having, and if there any cool new features you've noticed.

thanks much Sy, big job. Site has been fine for me for last few days so I don't see any change in performance.
New features seen so far
  1. On thread move it will delete the redirect after a set time (moderation/admin)
  2. I see a multi-quote reply button for posts, haven't tried yet.
  3. Quoted replies include button to take you to orig. post being quoted.
  4. Ratings for videos (stars) now visible on index (video) page.
  5. Is the "TJR's Skip Barber Racing School & Race Series Picture Gallery" display on main forum page new or have I just never noticed before?
will keep looking, if you all could report if site speed and stability are same, better or worse we would appreciate it.

btw - I still say the problem is in the server. Upgrade very nice in any event.

Thanks Sy

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

Been away all weekend without computer so can only report a much faster response time. Right now as good as its ever been. The first change I saw was the % of mailbox fullness. Cool. Haven't had time to check out the rest yet... All good stuff!

Thanks Sy,

Great job!

Thanks Sy for what was probably a LOT of work. And rapid response time worthy of superhero status ("Never fear, Sydude is here!"). Wish we could get THAT in the real world. Haven't had time to post or use new site features but all I've seen have cool potential.

Speed seemed ok at first this a.m. but back to slow loads now. The click to get on this thread took more than 45 sec to load. (right now in San Francisco, 10:30 am local time). I agree with Doug, think its the server.

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

Thank you Sy as usual for all of your kind support and effort to make this site such a great venue for us.

I will also addd the server may have issues. Still experiencing terrible click through and posting times. I wonder whether the server has a virus or has been taken over by spamming. It just shows the symptons of being bogged down all of a sudden.

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

Just so you know--

tried unsuccessfully on 4 separate occasions yesterday to log on. long waits and Internal Server 500 errors. finally gave up.

Seems to be working the best today that it has in a long time.

Re: Team Juicy Site Slow?

Just got off phone with host co., totally unsatisfactory.

"Well you see sir, with shared site hosting on one server there can be times when another site abuses the server resources and in turn your site can be adversely affected".

HUH? So you are telling me your hardware is not up to the task?

"That is not what I said sir".

I explained that up until 2 weeks ago the performance has been very very good, vbulletin software upgraded / reinstalled, there are users all over the country, make that all over the world (sorry Stir/Bek) and all have been having similar problems, it must be the host.

"As I explained sir, with shared site hosting on one server there may be times when another site may be abusing the server resources and in turn your site can be adversely affected" ...... .....

So you are saying we can now expect these problems to continue as they are part of your normal operations?

"That is not what I said sir, you see sometimes with shared site hosting...."

I told Sy to contact idiot #2 I spoke with and decide if we should find another host. If I were paying the bills it would be adios aplusnet. We'll keep ya posted. BTW, site performance has been acceptable at my end, not as good as it used to be but not too bad. A couple times it took a while to login or post but for the most part it is ok.

Oh yeah, everyone I have spoken to at aplusnet has an accent you can cut with a knife making communications that much more difficult and frustrating. No, this is not a comment on our changing workforce.....I'll leave that for another forum
