'Tis the season...

to change to our holiday banner, created last year by the incomparable CDH. If you don't see it, click the refresh button on your browser a few times. If that still doesn't work, you're probably using one of the 'pit girl' styles. So click on the 'style chooser' in the bottom left corner of any forum page and select the 'Team Juicy Racing Collage Header'.

Happy Holidays!

That's gonna to run in the foreground, I believe... And if so I have a feeling that would be slightly irritating after the first 15 seconds or so.

Re: 'Tis the season...

Ok, I thought it could be applied just to the image, like in the sample; then it would have been less annoying.

it is an image based applet, I added it to the banner on the page linked below since I didn't want to mess with the forum page html and because I am working left handed only (tough!!!) .

Sy, call me if you want to add to site, I like .

PS, move your cursor over the banner....very cool

snow banner

very cool. There's a 2 or 3 second delay loading up the java applet before the banner shows. Are you guys getting the same thing, and do you think that's a problem?

I have tried to open it 3 times. All I get is a black screen. I thought that it was Doug's commentary on his holiday spirit given his current circumstance!

Re: 'Tis the season...

Give it a few seconds to load. It should work.

Meanwhile, I changed the header on the Zaftik style as a test. What do you guys think?

http://www.teamjuicyracing.com/forum...php?styleid=13

The only problem I have with it is that the header flickers badly when you scroll the page.

Re: 'Tis the season...

I am on Sue's Mac now and it works fine (as does the zaftik version). Earlier, I was trying it on my PC and it wasn't loading. I waited nearly a minute each time.

Re: 'Tis the season...

Love the Team Zaftik update and snow on both. Yes I see the flicker issue. It's probably a function of the extra processing needed for the snow program. It's not too bad. Certainly good for the holidays.

Am I the only one? I can't display the Racing Collage header. With or without flakes.

I can get all of the others, but not that one. Ugh.

You guys need to clear your internet caches. The change over to the upgraded system may not work right until you do.

Let me know if that also cleans up the snowflake main banner problem. The main banner (now with snowflakes) works, but after some time it goes silly. Clearing the cache (in this case it's javascript) fixes it. I'm thinking we should maybe toss it.

Your Syness,

Looks nice but try deleting the lines in red below:

http://www.teamjuicyracing.com/webim...nner10Dark.jpg">

http://go.to/javabase">

Also, the background src is on the www, not local, change the background value to the location on the server, not the url, that should make a big diff, should look like this:

value="webimages/banner10Dark.jpg"> (or wherever it is located)

http://go.to/javabase">

I did this initially trying to get script to work, seemed to smooth it out, mine a bit slow loading also btw.

While your changing the code, change to the wreath banner to ice it

Re: 'Tis the season...

CDH, I deleted the two parameters (on the forum side only - I left the main index file alone) but I don't think it did anything. The thing still flickers etc. Do you notice any improvement? I couldn't change the file path to local, it doesn't recognize it. But that shouln't affect anything other than initial load time.

ok... without knowing WTF I was doing.... I blindly followed you into the quicksand. I now see a box where the banner is supposed to be, but no graphics. I also have no idea what I deleted! Hopefully, I'll never find out!!

Think I'll go watch a movie now.

BTW.... all that code gibberish was quite impressive... NOT! You pick up a lot of chicks in high school with that kinda talk? Funny, I never noticed the pocket protector.... hmmm.

OK, I emptied the cache and magically the winter wreath banner with moving snow appeared and I can do smillies again too! Cool beans.

Re: 'Tis the season...

Michael,

In Safari there is a pull down menu containing an "Empty Cache" option. That's how I did it. Don't see that option on Internet Explorer for Mac so you might have to go to your browser's help menu for instructions on how to do it... All browsers have memory allocated to hold recently visited web site data so they don't have to be completely re-downloaded every time you visit them. Clearing the cache forces the browser to reload the entire web page again, thus forcing the reloading of all the updated material Sy has created as well.

Now I'm starting to get pissed! I just deleted the 'cookies' from my computer..... again, not sure if that was a good idea or not. Either way, it didn't help.

Tried Sue's Mac... worked fine with Explorer or Safari. No update necessary.

Damn computers. They are as hard to understand as Birkmama when he gets excited!

BTW... does anybody give a shit about all of this?

Well... with nearly 25% of the posts in this thread, I guess you give one - couldn't resist.

I don't even see it as geeky to know about code, it has been a necessity--even working as a (technical) writer--to know it and use it.

Gee, I hadn't meant it to lead to frustration when I suggested the snowflakes; thought they were fun is all. And watching the snowflakes fall can be so calming, normally.

Well, thanks for trying!

This morning, the Forum banner is back... with static snowflakes. YAY!

The Home Page however, has a blank banner. I think Doug is screwing with me!

BTW... nice new avatar Doug!! Geeky cool... it's the new black!

The banner on the fuc*ing home page wasn't working for me either today, even after CDH's magical touches were put on it at 4:28 AM last night. (!!!!)

The home page banner has now been changed back, too. Hallelujah.

Thanks for going the extra mile with the snowflakes Sy, at least we had a little bit of snow before the storm passed. :-)

Sometimes the technology is a gift and sometimes its more than its worth.

So it goes... :-)

OK, OK, enough razzin' Sy, we must remember, it is this MAC user who built/upgrades/maintains and obsessivley compulses over this place. Sy, you are truly uber (sounds like an F1 driver's name, Trulli Uber - good one for sims )

THANK YOU!

It really hurts when someone attacks my geekiness/dorkiness, so it's good to know that my buds got my back.
