I'll be in Champ group, staying at The Lodge. Not sure on availability.

Re: Who's going to VIR

Yo.

VIR is situated in lush woodlands on the North Carolina-Virginia border, only 50 minutes from Ananda Bhavan ("House of Bliss"), aka my Mom's house, where a warm bed, room service, and incredible Indian cuisine awaits. Me.

Don't know nuthin bout no other rooms.

Re: Who's going to VIR?

It's still up in the air for me. I got some medical shit going on at this point and on top of that, money is scarce. I was thinking if I do go just running Friday; does anyone know if the kart track is open that weekend? That would add a little more value to the trip. Plus if any of the new guys running in the champ division want a little edge I am more than willing to be "sponsored" in an all night drinking contest with some of the champ front runners on Friday night (and Saturday if necessary). Just a suggestion.

Chris,
I am going as well. Will be at the Lodge and driving in Champ, given the new rules and momentum. Doug hit the nail on the head in his post. If the fields are bigger, Championship will be the better. See you all there!

Re: Who's going to VIR?

I'll be there. My first time at VIR! Is the kart track right next to the main track? So when it's not your group's turn on the real track could you spend some time at the kart rack?

Re: Who's going to VIR?

It's within the large campus that contains the race track. Not near the paddock but only a couple of minutes away by car.

Exclamation Re: Who's going to VIR?

I will be at VIR, racing sportsman..perhaps the gods will be smiling and ta ta.,into the champ group, but i doubt it...anyhow, this is my first posting and since Im a Virginian(by years here) here;s some advice on places to stay and not. The Sleep Inn in Danville, in my opinion is the best. Its located accross from the Airport (duck your head when passing ),,and gives a discount for VIR ..Its new and close to places to eat. Its about a 20 min. ride away. Do not under any circumstances stay at the Days Inn on Hwy.58 in Boston!, The other chain hotels/motels are decent; Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn. etc. the VIr web page:www.virclub.com has, I believe a listing of places to stay. There;s a pizza sandwitch shop in Milton, serves cold beer as well and is in an old store. There;s a decent Italian place in danville in the corner of a shopping center, sorry but right now cant remember the name..but its well know. Also several Mexican places that are good as well. Everyone drive safely..watch your speed if your coming down 460 , there are way too many radar cops in this state..I know, Im a lawyer.. Joe McGrath

Re: Who's going to VIR?

Welcome to TJR Joe.
Your local inside lodging info is much appreciated. It's been reported that The Lodge at VIR is booked up so your tips couldn't be more timely. Will look forward to meeting you at the track.
Pat

Re: Who's going to VIR?

Addition to my previous posting: The Italian resturant in Danville is Joe & Mima's ..There's also a B&B in Milton.
I also want to add another word of caution about speeding thru Virginia..20 mph over the limit or 80+ is Reckless driving in this state. If you get a ticket for Reckless driving the courts will compel you to return for trial. In additionDO NOT under any circumstances hit 90mph!, on the Interstate or highways..in most jurisdictions that results in jail, a fine, and suspension of the driving privleges in this State.(all which will probably follow you to your state). This is also important to remember on your retun trip as your body will be still processing speed as on the track, you wont realize how fast your going until its too late..use the cruise control! Ya all drive safely now...ya hear!

Re: Who's going to VIR?

just read my previous post..which i left late last night..please note that the statement "all of which will probably follow you to your state" was in error..what I ment to say was that the conviction would probably follow you to your state..sorry..I was up way too late that wasnt me doing the thinking.

Re: Who's going to VIR?

I know what I'm going to say is very un-racerly, but cruise control is the answer. Just click it on 65, or whatever is an appropriate speed, and you won't get a ticket. I also make sure I am not the fastest driver out there and let myself get passed.
