I don't think anybody ever claimed a safer seat at SBRS.... Pretty sure it's just to make the seat fit a human's back. Yoda from Star Wars was the original seat molder.....

This does explain a lot about both the seats and the pedal boxes. (I'm sure this is someone's avatar from the wookiepedia website.)
