Injured Tracy may miss finale
By David Malsher Saturday, November 4th 2006, 21:47 GMT
Paul Tracy may have to miss the final Champ Car race of the season next weekend after breaking his right scapula in a non-racing incident.
The Canadian, who currently lies fifth in the championship table, said the incident occurred last Saturday night.
Tracy told autosport.com: "Sorry to say it was self-inflicted. I was at a party and had had a little too much to drink, and we thought it was a good idea to go out on a golf-cart and try and jump sand-dunes with it.
"We were wrong. It wasn't a good idea. Jumped a sand-trap and ended up with the cart on top of me. Like I say, it sounded like a good idea at the time, but it didn't pan out that way."
Since then, the Forsythe Championship Racing driver has tried to recuperate, but he believes he overdid his exercise over the past seven days.
"We were making good progress Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, but I was at physiotherapy on Thursday and I started working it too hard and it's gone back about ten steps now.
"I can't move it right now, it can't take any weight. I've got a doctor coming over later on today [Saturday] and I've been talking to Terry Trammell [Champ Car and Indycar doctor] and work out what our game plan is.
"I've gotta get it to where I can at least start Mexico, get the starting points. I got my full range of motion back before Thursday, so if I can get back to that state again, then we should be okay.
"But at the moment, the muscles around the scapula have just kinda gone into lock-down to protect it."
Thus, the Champ Car grid may appear strangely unfamiliar in Mexico City next week.
Buddy Rice and David Martinez will be piloting Forsythe cars, while Adam Carroll may be in the No. 9 RuSPORT car if Justin Wilson - who broke the scaphoid in his right wrist at Surfers Paradise - decides he is unable to start.
Meanwhile, at least one of the Forsythe drivers - AJ Allmendinger - who started in Surfers will be absent, while the second one might be too.

Separated at birth or just kissin' cousins?
"Here...Hold my beer... Watch this! Woo Hoo!"
Do you think Paul's professional career may have just peaked?
The funny part is those antics would now probably get him fined and suspended in NASCAR.

PT called Dave Despain on Wind Tunnel last night and modified his story slightly. Agreeing that he had been drinking he claims not to play golf or own a golf cart but says he was driving a 4WD ATV that he owns and that's what landed on top of him when he flipped. He said the story of what happened had been blown out of proportion. But reading between the self serving non-specific disclaimer it sounds like pretty much everything mentioned in the story happened, it just didn't happen in a golf cart...
So glad we got that cleared up...
Hee Haw...

Good point... To his credit Tracy didn't put lipstick on the pig, just set the record straight from his point of view.
Though his judgment can be questioned he does, as you say, always remain in character.
You'd prefer someone of his talent and experience to be a charismatic and classy ambassador of the sport, yet in a "Can't look away because you might miss something" sense, you also don't want him to lose the jackass routine because his on and-off track antics are so damn entertaining.
You wonder if he's PT Barnum or the next celebrity rehab candidate... or both.
Hope he pulls a rabbit out of the hat and makes a speedy recovery.

It is nice to know that he is being honest, and letting his charecter show. We do not see enough of this in F-1 these days (except for JPM and JV, but they are out now!).
All the F-1 drivers are just acting like the "perfect serious racing driver" when in fact, they are all human. And racers in general, enjoy taking risks, and live a life style in which quality, is prefered over quantity of life.
By the way, have you guys seen this clip of Kimi drunk?

Oh, this is too good! From Autoweek:
Turns out there’s more to Champ Car driver Paul Tracy crashing his golf cart (Competition, Nov. 13). Our mole says Tracy took motorcycle racer Yvonne Duhamel and fellow Champ Car drivers Alex Tagliani and Patrick Carpentier for a dune buggy ride on the golf course next to his house. We knew that, but apparently Tagliani was knocked out for five minutes and Duhamel was injured along with Tracy. The real kicker: They were in their Halloween costumes for a party, and Tagliani went to the hospital in his clown suit.
