Driver suit repair?

I was at the LRP ADV2 last week. Part way through day 1 I was pulling on my suit top (without the zipper fully opened) and managed to pull two teeth out of the zipper, about waist level.
Does anyone have a lead for getting a suit repaired?

Re: Driver suit repair?

This is only an educated guess on my part, but if you wanted to do it locally using a good tailor, I would first order a spool of Nomex thread from one of the racing gear suppliers. Provide the thread to the tailor and I would think they could then replace the zipper and you wouldn't compromise the safety of the suit if you use the correct thread.

I'll second Tireman's suggestion. A good tailor with Nomex thread should be able to get the job done.

There are vendors who monogram race uniforms and use Nomex thread who'd probably be able to take care of you but you'd have to send the suit to them.

Re: Driver suit repair?

OK, I'm good so far. I have a spool of nomex thread for sewing on patches. Aren't the zippers manufactured on a nomex tape? Is there a source for single zippers? My internet searches turn up Chinese suppliers of bulk quantities.

Hmmm, excellent question. I guess a call to your suit manufacturer would be the next step. They could tell you for sure, and probably sell (or give) you a zipper if it is on nomex tape.

Let us know the answer please.

Re: Driver suit repair?

You might give Speedware a call on their toll free number and see if they know anyone who could take care of you. They're one of the biggest suppliers of speed gear and are also racers so they might have a vendor or alternate idea on fixing your zipper. Of course they'd love to sell you a new suit but they also know that if they help you fix the one you've got you're more likely to buy your next one from them... It's worth a shot.

Re: Driver suit repair?

A local taylor can fix it... I did that pulling one out of a driver bag once... jumped teeth. $10, they fixed it.

Re: Driver suit repair?

Final word on the suit repair...local tailor replaced the zipper for $40. Good as new again. Zippersource.com was a find.
