Videos Very Cool: How to build a Race Car From Scratch

Check out this time lapse of the build of a new LMP car for Scott Sharp after his helicopter shunt in practice at Petit Le Mans. The car was ready to be fired 20 hours after the tub arrived overnight from Cali. Such a great idea for the team to film this.

Indeed. This way the team owner and sponsors know just where that weekend's dumptruck full of cash went.

But still, looks like 10-12 mechanics? The place is so well lit, nice clean floor, every tool you could ever hope for and mostly NEW parts, I would expect. And a new tub flown in overnight from cross-country. Wonder what these guys could do with a wrecked TQ, USAC Siver Crown car or midget in a dirt pit with a couple of flashlights and 45 minutes between heats?

None the less, an impressive feat.

Thanks for the great link, Harsha. That is really cool...

I'm watching and wondering how this is coordinated and controlled, how so many can work in unison under immense time pressure and create such a precise instrument. I guess I'm just a big geek, but I'm wondering if there are parallels to the work I do. I'd be interested to know if written assembly procedures are used and if so, in what manner.
