Still the pinnacle of F1 cinematic achievement imo. Cool look at the Monaco shoot.
Can you imagine the miles of unseen archived footage?? I'd like to watch it all
New standards were set for sound recording and editing, Oscars deservedly won. There was one GT40 rig that had half a formula car grafted on the back of it. Story goes Sabato (Barlini) was terrified of this beast and it was all they could do to get those shots of him (not sure I would want to be a passenger at 140 MPH in this thing either!)
Also Brian Bedford (Stoddard) was “very much out of his element” in a race car, couldn't get the shifting down at all, so his sequences were done with doubles.
45 years later GP still shines - an amazing achievement.

Garner said that after his first, and only, stint in this he would never get in it again. Can't imagine why!

Actually I'm quite surprised that with that monster camera sticking up in the windstream and no rear bodywork you could even get the thing to run 140 in a straight line and I bet the REAL fun started when you tried to TURN it!
Whoever's in the car has got both hands on his helmet like, "Holy s--t, WTF???!?!?!?"
Right you are Slowhands...even parked on the grid!!! ...and the 140 MPH is from memory, thought I read it somewhere,
there really is no need for that kind of speed, not when edited.
You can see the three seconds they got of Sabato not screaming in this rig at 1:37 .
and here is a teaser for Pushing The Limit - The Making of Grand Prix
Love your avatar and your post Fred. Thanks for joining and we'll look for you in the blue Dunlop suit at LRP.

I saw this first in a full Cinerama theater, and the guy behind me just about kicked out the back of my seat, trying to brake for Gasometre.
I still have my blue Dunlop suit. I should wear it around the paddock at LR next weekend.
