Exclamation TJR 2009 System Update - Feature Request and Modification Discussions

:: TJR MOVING SERVERS & UPDATING SYSTEM - EXPECT SITE DOWNTIME ::

Hey y'all. TJR will be moving to all new (and faster!) servers and updating our software & features over the next few days, so expect major/minor downtime and problems. I hope to get it done by the weekend, but you just never know!

Wish us luck! :-)

Also - if there are any new features, functions, improvements or changes that you would like to see, now's the time to ask!! Ask for it here.

Re: TJR 2009 System Update - Feature Request and Modification Discussions

Here are a few planned changes/updates (in addition to a faster website):

1. Make the website around 33% wider overall, as computer monitors have generally become much larger and can accommodate more data. The result will be that you'll have to scroll down less.

2. A slightly better/slicker photo gallery.

3. Videos will now open and run right inside of all new threads. COMPLETED. Click here for an example.

That's all I have for now. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see.

I have two suggestions, first I like your example Sy, I think all threads should revolve around me, or something related to me.

I was going to suggest a calendar, however upon closer inspection you all ready have one.

An integrated spell checker would be nice. Thought we had some form of one for a while... Not sure what happened?

Re: TJR 2009 System Update - Feature Request and Modification Discussions

Merge some forums, I think there are too many, could make
TJR's Hot Racing News Feed a sub category of the F1, ChampCar & All Other Series, and merge
Advanced Technique & Racing School Discussions with Driver's Gear, Race Tracks & Travel
into one forum, could even make it another sub cat of the top SB forum.

Could even merge Racing Pictures & Videos Forum with Road Cars & Off Topic Forum
since most pics and vids are not Skip related.

The relatively low level of posting has been the case for years and I don't think it will change, having so many forums seems unecessary. I'd be happy to do any or all of this if you agree Sy, and thanks for the tune up

Many of the original nucleus of Juicers have moved out of Skip to other racing endeavors and while many do follow the site loyally, only post from time to time since they are no longer all-Skip-all-the-time. Those of us still with the program can make a concerted effort to draw in new blood, including younger karters. (I did that with Paul Fisk, look what happened.) A lot of interested members is essential to have new and interesting threads. I would financially contribute toward the manufacture of a new round of Juicy visor strips and perhaps a cool T-shirt, to be distributed at this summer's events to raise awareness that we are out there (selfish reason: I don't have one). Mentoring relationships are an effective way to get new people turned on to Juicy. I am going to try to run the entire summer series, I am happy to help in this effort if in fact one is desired.

Thanks Doug and Sy for all you do.

Re: TJR 2009 System Update - Feature Request and Modification Discussions

Thanks Harsha, good ideas. I wonder if it isn't time to talk to George or Aaron again and ask if they are interested in linking the SB site with TJR. Their forum attempt went nowhere, they tried to reinvent the wheel, no need to.

Looking at recent posting activity it is all so pro Skip Barber, I scratch my head at their reluctance to acknowledge the site.

I really believe the synergies of a link would be positive.

Agree about synergy but IMO unlikely to happen, since company does not have control over the forum in any way, ie structure, content, look-and-feel, never mind the obvious one re negative posted opinions. From an objective perspective, if I were they I probably wouldn't link officially either. On the other hand, informal linking such as letting a Juicy member make a pitch to new drivers at the driver's meeting like they do for Mechanics Fund and Helix could be more palatable, though I honestly don't know if they will go for that. But I think proposing the latter to someone sympathetic, ie Todd, is worth a shot.

Yeah... look what happened! Now I'm addicted to TJR AND SBRS!!!!
I'm with Harsha on looking for new ways to pull in some new blood. I plug TJR with the new guys, but I don't get out enough to make much difference.

And, I echo thanks to Doug and Sy. Let me know how I can pitch in.

Yes... speeel chunck would be graet.

Re: TJR 2009 System Update - Feature Request and Modification Discussions

I can't believe SBRS doesn't try to use the site more effectively. Unique group of racers, I am happy just to be a part of it. To get the inside story from the guys I watch on TV is pretty special. Of course I always think its "special" when my rear tires are worn bald.

I was at RA once at a SB weekend, and someone was talking about Michael Vick he had just been arrested, one of the instructors who shall remain nameless pulled me aside and said "who is michael vick?". Nice, my kinda people. Didn't Hemingnway say something about racing and rock climbing, the rest are just games...

Re: TJR 2009 System Update - Feature Request and Modification Discussions

So no longer Team Juicy Racing.com. I noticed the support TJR button is gone, and we are now skippyforums, am I to assume some kind of deal was made, or should I still be sending a check into the TJR gods?

Re: TJR 2009 System Update - Feature Request and Modification Discussions

We're on a new faster server with software upgrades and as you've discovered a new name. Support link is now in place! So don't hold back. We'll have a formal grand re-opening message soon.
