I first thought the hissing sound I'd been hearing all week was that of hot air being released from the collective psychic pain balloons that Red Sox fans had tied to their belts since 1918...
Unfortunately that sound, in some cases, turns out to be more adolescent tongue wagging from those who weren't very good sports as losers (As opposed to say... Cub fans) and, not surprisingly, turn out to be less than gracious winners as well.
Like big lottery winners who's lives are cast adrift when they lack the social and financial skills to handle their new winnings appropriately, these new baseball winner/whiners have been tossed into the deep end of the pool with no positive reference points from which to model graceful winning behavior.
It is understandable given their history.
Jims "Happy Place" makes me smile because it celebrates winning, but you guys are going to have to do a whole lot more licking (and winning) before that "Loser" label comes anywhere near sticking to the Yankees.
Congratulations. Please believe me when I say that that I truly believe that the Red Sox should win a World Series once every 86 years. They earned it.
Boston is a different place this morning. Hign tech heaven, Biotech bastion, educational mecca, and bookend championship sports franchises to get us through the year.
The moon rose, the tides turned, the stars re-aligned, hell froze over, and the curse is lifted.
The sun even came up this morning...
Congratulations (gulp) World Champion Boston Red Sox
Geez that feels strange... especially to Red Sox fans.
You took the longest hardest possible route through the Yankees, then 4 straight from the Cards. Amazing! Gotta tip our cap and say the team with the most desire and magic won. The unbridled joy of the Red Sox team and fans is well deserved. The monkey is off your back. You totally earned it.
Now you get to find out how hard it is to do twice in 87 years.
Enjoy wearing the crown this winter and lets get it on in the spring.
