PRI 2011

Who's going to the PRI show? I'm working Booth 3345 - Mechanical Simulation near Ford.

Skip Barber is booth 717. I'll be there, as well as at Mazda's presence near the rear of the building. Hope to see you all there!

For those of us not in Orlando... Would love to see pics of the Skip Barber booth and the Mazda display if you have time.

For those of us in Orlando, how does one score a pass to the event?

Re: PRI 2011

Pat, I'll grab my camera and do a photo safari tomorrow.

Kbalch, its only a matter of demonstrating some kind of industry affiliation. Go to registration, bring your racing license, race results, or something else that proves you participate, work, or are otherwise involved in the sport, and you can get a credential. They are just trying to keep out the general public so that everyone there can get some work done.

Besides the work I do for SBRS, I enjoy chatting with reps from the different in-car camera and data acquisition vendors. It's great to compare methodologies and learn what is new.

AiM has a new product called the Solo that I will learn more about tomorrow and post some information for you all. In a nutshell, its about the size of the lap timers many of you use, but includes accelerometers and a better GPS sensor. Tomorrow I'll visit with an engineer at AiM to see if the resulting data is usable for us. The real kicker is this device is completely self contained and knows which track you are running. It gives lap times, predictive laps, and can download to RaceStudio for analysis. But before I can give it my blessing, I have to see if the GPS speed is accurate. Previous GPS speed traces have not matched up to what a normal wheelspeed sensor produces. I will be using one at the next Skip Barber regional at Mazda Raceway. More info here: http://www.aimsports.com/

Re: PRI 2011

Gerardo, in my experience with the Solo so far, it has been the same level of data as I've picked up with their higher end devices like the MXL and EVO4.

The DL version can also connect into ECUs through an OBD or CAN interface. Some of hte data channels are incredible. I have one driver who has brake pressures, individual wheel speeds, etc. all through a 700 dollar datalogger.
