Organisers reveal further details about Austin track
"Race organisers for the forthcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, have released further details about the new circuit, which will stage the event from 2012, when Formula One racing returns to the country for the first time in five years.
As well as being the United States’ first purpose-built Formula One track, there will be additional visitor attractions at the site including a proposed driving/riding experience and seminar building, a motorsports driving club, a kart track and a welcome centre.
The multifunctional facility will be ideally situated on a 900-acre site in southeast Austin. The proposed grandstands, semi-permanent stands and natural seating areas will enable over 120,000 to attend the venue’s first event in 2012.
To address the impact of traffic, leading transportation and traffic-engineering experts, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. and Graham Lake-Grange have been retained. Kimley-Horn developed traffic plans for the Texas Motor Speedway, the new Cowboys Stadium, Lone Star Park, and Houston’s Dynamo Park. UK-based Graham Lake-Grange has developed successful traffic management plans for 13 British Grands Prix at Silverstone as well as over 100 other public events.
The driving/riding experience and seminar building will provide the ideal location for manufacturers to test, launch and educate dealers as well as consumers. The facility will feature classroom settings, virtual driving experiences and will provide the opportunity for test-driving on the racetrack.
The membership-only motorsports driving club will serve as a luxury destination featuring an array of hospitality services, including professional instruction and customized driving courses. The outdoor karting track be open to the public and will specialize in orchestrating custom group events, team-building programmes, celebratory events, fundraisers as well as individual experiences."
