time to vote for helmet design

Ok, first off, happy new year. Second, vote for me. As many of you know, I love aerobatic airplanes as a 2nd love to racing. One of my favorite airplanes is the Yak 54, a Russian built 2 place aerobatic wonder. Big, heavy, and yet nimble. I love the colors on it too. A young friend of ours in the airplane industry knows this and designed me some paint schemes. Can you help here? I normally don't try to mock up a helmet after something so this is a first for me too. Thanks guys/gals.

The last one you posted ("one more......") is you, buddy. That IS the Duke Sanford / Chester Copperhead / MegaWatts special. Looks like THE helmet a good ol' old-school All-American barnstormin' lasso-ropin' bushhawger like you would come stormin' by in....

(However if you're thinking modern/sleek, then #1. but I like the other.)

Re: time to vote for helmet design

The last one looks a little too Evil Knievel for my money (Unless that's what you're looking for) and there aren't any stars on the plane shown. I'm with Jim... The 3rd or 4th gets my vote. Like 3 better than 4 of the group of 4.

Re: time to vote for helmet design

This is an RC plane, but it is an exact look of what the full scale bottom looks like. There are no stars, maybe 1 on each size of the rudder? He is 10 years old that is doing this and he was just trying to break it up some. There is a lot of blue, or a lot of yellow just above the visor. I really wish I was good at like corel draw or photoshop to tweak these... thanks guys.

I can see the Evel knievel motif, but I think it fits the patented "lasso wave"

Actually, the stars over the visor reminded me of this guy:

Keith,
I like the stars/Evel Knievel thing too. They would definitely go with your suit. Still, I vote #2.

P.S. Is that Jim Butler in the red shirt?

I'm liking #3. Are you going with colors per the sketch or closer to the picture of the real plane?

I like #3. I think that's the hot ticket.

Re: time to vote for helmet design

yeah, I have to say that while I still vote for the Evel K./Stuckie one (the last one), I like the blue checker of #3. So I will amend my vote to say go with Evel, but make the checker blue instead of black.

And can we alternate the colors of the stripes on the bottom, like they are on the planes wings?

Western Re: time to vote for helmet design

My input on the helmet design is the first design captures the colors and spirt of the plane IF you make the blue darker. the light blue makes the first helmet a different look from the plane. The 2nd helmet would be more similar if blue was darker and then alternate the colors around the bottom. Plane is BwYwR, helmet is RwRwRwR.
So if you want to capture the plane, it is #1 or #2 with change to dark blue and for #2 alternate the color bands at bottom.

I was LOL at the picture in the pits.... first of all nick-nick captured on the side of the truck was a nice picture. The team that was captured is Bob Lee's Speed Shop from Fort Lauderdale. looks like they no longer race the Maverick. It was a mainstay for many years in SCCA Club racing with "For Sale" sign attached at every race. Also ran in lots of Sebring 12 hour races.

Re: time to vote for helmet design

Ken,
My Junk Yard eye tells me that ain't no Maverick...
Try a Plymouth Arrow. All the more appropriate on Pete's part knowing that Keith is all MOPAR all the time!

For my $.02, design #2 for me. The others are way to busy...

Western Re: time to vote for helmet design

Stevie D,
Sorry I should have been clearer.... I knew that the car in the picture was not Bob Lee Speed Shop Maverick. This is a later model of his race car stable. I was doing a history comment. I think Bob may still be running the Plymouth Arrow that is pictured here.

And I agree that some of the helmet designs look a bit busy.

Thanks,
Ken

Re: time to vote for helmet design

My apologies kind sir,

I totally overlooked the key phrase "looks like they no longer".

Obviously anyone with the moniker 'Redneck" can easily distinguish between two automotive icons such as a Ford Maverick and a Plymouth Arrow.

My Bad,
SD

Right you are Stevie. That photo was taken at the '98 24 Hour Longest Night at Moroso. They were paddocked right next to us--that's our U-Haul with Nick Nick on it. Sometimes you have to work to get a good picture, sometimes all you have to do is be there. I was there but, for obvious reasons, not for long.
Pete

Guys, good eye. The colors are not exact. I am not much of Petty blue personally.... ( I know , hard to believe). Thanks for your vots so far.

Is that some kind of shot at those of us "old folks" who had an original rubik's cube in our freshman year of college in 1981 (and still have it, btw)? HUH? You high-flyin' whizbang x-gens thinkin' you're all that.

Back to the helmet, I always try to remember Waddell's 8th immutable rule of motorsports: The 50/50 rule. You have to be able to distinguish the design from 50 feet away at 50 MPH. That's why I'm sticking to #2.

Dude, you're so 404, but you're still the bomb.

Pete
