What a car...some people are so dumb. "Hey hun, do you know where I put my Mustang? I parked it somewhere 25 years ago and can't seem to find it." "Did you look in the garage?" "Oh right. Wait, that's not ours anymore."

From the article:
"This car is a Shelby that was sold to Hertz, who used it as part of a “Rent-a-Racer” program, which allowed people to rent a hot rod on Friday, take it to the track all weekend and bring it back on Monday.
Only about 1,000 of those special Hertz Shelbys were produced. And nearly all of them were painted in a black-and-gold scheme. Only a few came in the red and white. Pratt has found one document that suggests only 50 were painted in that scheme."

Re: Shelby Mustang garage find
I'm not sure there was a spot on the rental agreement for "Pinks appearance'. But then, Hertz never looked to see if the engine that came back was the one that left either. I'm just sayin'.

I can tell you with certainty that when you rented one of the 50th anniversery edition Hertz Shelby Mustangs a manager went over the car iwith a checklist of serial numbers in your presence before they turned you loose in it. There were seals on the cylinder heads, motor mounts and intake manifold, all pointed out and checked off. He also pointed out and checked off the various bits of speciallty Shelby trim that they expected to come back with the car. I rented one in San Francisco to drive down to Laguna Seca. As I stood there helmet and firesuit bags in hand, I felt like a kid being interrogated by some girl's father who thought I had an inkling I might get lucky...
