Dalytrio to do 3 day racing school
:: For anyone participating or considering participating in any driving or racing school, here is the place to ask questions and share your experiences.
Dalytrio will do her 3 day open wheel racing school on August 22, 23 and 24 at Lime Rock Park.
Be afraid... Be very afraid

Yeah... But when you think about it... All the instructors already know her so it won't be a surprise to them... And none of the other students at the 3 day will have any idea who she is since most all of them will have never seen this thread. So she'd have to arrive disguised as Peter Dannan to not be recognized by the instructors and be taken note of by her fellow 3 dayers. If her cover is blown it will be by other instructors... Not by me

Which is exactly why I always said I'd have to take a school at a one-off location under an assumed name with instructors who wouldn't recognize me. Instead, I was in a four person "corporate" Reverse Combo with two instructors.

Is there a caption contest here???
"Dad. I know I promised I wouldn't pass you but....."
"Once she gets under Daddy Dearest's lap times she'll be ok."
"Hey Dad, What does an F2000 cost?"
"Dad, this is Tommy. He has a truck and a nice 24 foot enclosed trailer and we were wondering....."

Next time you see Julia, ask her to tell you how she already kicks her dad's you-know-what in karts. It's very entertaining. Especially if Dad is standing nearby.

Wellll as long as youre asking... My dad and I did a 3 hour enduro race at GPNY in the 9 hp karts. Everyone was weighed in so the karts were even. My dad and I both went out during qualifying and I out qualified him (by half a second might i add) . I've beaten him before numerous (yes, numerous) times but we were always in different karts so he always said that there was a weight advantage or whatever but not that time! Same kart, same weight, I go vroom vroom faster than him tee hee
However, I do not expect to be amazing at my three day in the least. I am excited but also quite nervous. There are so many young and fearless kids that have been karting for so long, but I dont have that kind of experience. My biggest fear is doing something stupid and putting it in the wall causing my parents pocketbooks to suffer unneeded damage. Any advice?
This would bother me except that Trio spent most of the event telling everyone within earshot including Mark Patterson and Nick Longhi how much faster she was compared to me. I know this tune well and am not feeling any pressure because my time racing karts is limited. We all know how humbling and fun the 3 day is... Not looking over my shoulder... yet.

Pat, in thinking back to that older thread about the hot tub, and how Julia wouldn't get to use it etc, I'd wager that, in the long run, it would have been cheaper for you to outright buy a tub.
We all know what happens when one completes a 3 Day. (Poppers can kiss his wallet goodbye ????)
Looking forward to seeing you get your comeuppance from Trio in a kart.

Have advised Trio to keep buying lottery tickets.

My dearest poppers, might I remind you that we have had the exact same amount of experience in a kart considering whenever I kart, you kart. In fact, i seem to remember u karting when i wasnt, so you may infact have MORE experience in a kart than I. Therefore, your claim is an untruth.
Not claiming to have less time in karts than you, just saying I have less time in karts than Skippy formula cars and I don't work at karting the way I do at skippy racing. Look forward to hearing how you plan on paying for your 3-day.

Does anyone else think this has all the potential of a public soap opera played out on the road courses of America? Good cow! The excuses are already being made, the "Yeah, but ..." qualifications are clearly in the air, and the girl has not yet even taken the first day of her three-day school. This could get really interesting.

i am most certainly NOT saying that i will be any good in a skippy car, just that i can be fast in a kart. my own personal goal when i was starting karting was to be able to beat my dad, and as you can tell i am quite proud (maybe too proud) that i met my goal.
i cant wait for my 3-day and i have no doubt that i will be quite humbled
Trio - concede nothing. I have a friend who was an offensive lineman in the NFL for 11 years, then coached in the NFL for another 15 years. He has a sign over his desk that reads: "Believe you can or believe you can not, either way you are right".

That is one true statement, Mike.

Well, my advice is; Don't do anything stupid and Don't put it in the wall. It sounds so simple ...... doesn't it?

Hi Ted,
Dalytrio was sitting on the pit wall when the earth moved. She thought some of the mechanics were trying to play a trick on her but then realized she was sitting on a Jersey barrier that would take more than two mechanics to rock. Then she noticed the whole pit lane was shaking and cars were jiggling. I was walking down pit lane and my motion blocked me from feeling it but my radio crackled... "Did you feel that..." "Yeah, that was an earthquake!" "You see all the cars in the paddock are jiggling" Yeah and all the buildings shook..." I felt cheated because I didn't feel it or see any of the jiggling. By the time it was reported... it was over. But no doubt it was the earth simply adjusting to Trio's 2nd day in a race car.
Hey Roger... No problem at all... Wasn't 100% certain it was you because I haven't seen you in a while and didn't know what you were riding but figured it probably was you as there aren't that many fierce dirt bikers prowling LRP's paddock.
Great to see Phil feeling better and on his game. He was a great dynamic lead for Trio's 3-Day. Rick D and Bruce M were also in fine form. She had a blast, asked good questions, made terrific progress and loved the downhill enough to run away from almost everyone in her group. It was a good group... Four women, and about 9 guys. Several sons and daughters of racers so lots of laughs, hugs and good stories.
Trio had a good learning spin in turn one during the braking and turning exercise (Where I had my first spin. :-) and another one or two in turn 3 while figuring out trail braking. She kept her nose clean and made great progress in understanding and executing complex vehicle dynamics. It was a joy to witness and especially nice to help her strap into the car over three days the way she has helped me over the last 8 years. Good stuff and so proud of the way she engaged in the process and learned.
Trio was mightily honored to have Doug Harrison video her during day two of the 3-Day with interviews and action shots and Mike Marino, Alex and Ally took some stellar action and posed shots to preserve the moment. It was probably the nicest three days of weather I've ever experienced at LRP and the whole event could not have been more enjoyable.
A few great Mike Marino, Alex and Ally stills.

Pat.. absolutely awesome that you got to return the favor of being a good supporter and designated belt buckler.. Sounds like she had a blast and learned a bunch of exactly what she should be learning.. Sounds like lots of good experienced gained. A great group of instructors and as always great job with pics n vid by Mike and Alex..
Next time Ill stop for sure. I need to do a better job of keeping up with my ALL my LRP buddies on my off time.
And the bike always looks a lil different when you see it, always has some new scars. Thankfully the Italian beauty doesn't mind sacrificing herself every once in awhile. Got enough of my own scars and bruises over the years. lol...
I'm glad you liked the shots, Pat! Alex and I lucked out on Tuesday with the weather -- unlike what Mike and I had today... When we were shooting the 3Day, Alex and I knew ahead of time that Julia was in the 49, so we made sure to get extra shots of her.
A big thank you also goes out to Doug, who happened to have a spare card reader that we put to good use when one of our pins bent. Thanks Doug!
Thanks cheeky!
Forgot to include you in the trigger happy trio. Ally was part of the Mike Marino trio that lensed the event and owe thanks to her as well. Brava and Bravo to all.

Congrats to the entire Daly Trio! What a nice and memorable family experience! Great pics! Wish I could've been there and looking forward to hearing Julia tell how it was from "inside the cockpit."

I had an absolutely amazing time, definitely one of my best experiences ever. Like my dad said I had a couple spins, but I've seen enough of you guys do that to know to lock up so I didnt hit anything. My goal over the three days was to not necessarily be super de duper fast, but just improve, and continue getting faster which I accomplished so I'm quite happy. My fastest recorded time was a 1.04.8, but I got faster in my last session which wasnt recorded so I'm happy with my speed too, as my dad said he was running 1.04s in his 3-day. I thought I was going to have a lot of trouble downshifting cause I'm not used to driving a stick, but I was happily surprised that I could do it by the middle of the second day without really thinking about it, and doing it correctly.
I'm absolutely in love with the downhill. It's a high speed corner, but also technical the way you have to balance the car with the throttle, and I probably thought the most about that corner than any other. By my last session my dad said I was getting pretty fast through there and pulling gaps on the cars that were faster than me through the uphill, so I was quite happy with that considering the downhill is the most important corner on Limerock.
The instruction was of course superb, and all of them told me exactly what I needed to do and how in language I could understand and apply to my driving. The mechanics kept wrongly accusing me that I was breaking stuff so I knew they were enjoying my presence, and the Helix crew were awesome as always with the pictures, they created the illusion that I was actually going fast . The reason I come to the Skippy weekends all the time is as much for the people as it is to watch my dad race, and I enjoyed every minute of being around the same great people for my 3day. My dad told me Doug was going to come down to hang out, but didn't tell me that he was coming to shoot video for my own little 3day movie. I was surprised and touched that he would come down just for me. You da bomb diggity Doug!
I've been going to Limerock with my dad for the past 14 years, (thats 7/9 of my entire life) so the experience was even more special to be there with him. I'll admit I got a little girly the last lap of the last session when I looked at the beautiful day, with race track in front of me, and my parents clapping wildly for me in the downhill... I got a bit misty eyed. I am one lucky gal.
I know there's been a lot of grumbling and mumbling about how people racing with Skip arent having as much fun anymore. If you are one of those people I encourage you to remember your 3day (if you had one) and just enjoy being in the car. As Gerardo says, "Only good things can happen".I found that when I was aggravated for whatever reason I drove worse than when I wasnt worrying about how I was driving or about anything else for that matter.

Great write up. That is a very fast time for your first time out - Congrats- You are a fast learner!
BTW: I feel it is important to 'take it in' as you describe from time to time. I usually do it on out laps or cool down laps - but it is a good idea to absorb the moment in the memory bank!
BTW: the grumblings is that SB isnt fun anymore - its other stuff - racing is always fun!!
i look forward to your next update!
ps- did u get a seat made? that is worth at LEAST 1 second just right there.

I actually used my dads seat and it helped quite a lot. I was sharing my car with a girl who was 6 inches shorter than I so the pedals were a little funky for me which probably slowed me up a bit too as I could barely get to full throttle with a straight leg.
Actually 12 years old, precisely the age to start racing Skippy! DalyTrio is a little older than that. but if her gene pool has anything to do with it she will be fast very soon. Good Luck Julia!!
