Watkins Glen media tower demolished
Yes, they're building a new one. Some interesting quotes in the second half of the linked article. I'm sure we all have memories. What are yours?

Re: Watkins Glen media tower demolished
I think they needed a new tower because the old one could not accommodate the torture chamber they plan to build and use for anyone who violates any of WGI's many rules.

We must all remember that this track is in NEW YORK. The Peoples Republic of NY.
It took a long time to get the 475,000 permits for demolition of a historic structure.
Good Bye cruel 1960 design.

I was once "extraordinarily rendered" to the WGI media tower and subjected to a technique Nick Nicholson likes to call "Chicken Boarding."
It was...wait for it...All chicken, All the time. And, needless to say, it was torture.

Re: Watkins Glen media tower demolished
I just lost my composure thinking about other WGI landmarks that could go the way of the media tower.
The thoroughly modern Mr. Chicken eatery (eats)
The unusually modern and quite comfortable (in a Spanish inquisition sort of way) Seneca Lodge. My wife wonders why I can stay ALMOST any where no matter the condition. I tell her that if you can admit you have stayed at the Seneca Lodge people think you can endure Base Camp C at Everest.
But let us not forget some of the other great places that have already been lost to us at WGI
THE BOG- HOME OF MANY A MUD WRESTLING ENDURO.
THE BATHROOMS- IF YOU WENT IN THEM YOU MAY NEVER COME OUT. "CHANCES ARE WHEN YOU WEAR THAT SILLY GRIN.....YOU ARE STONED ON THE SMELL "

There was a cell phone spying on Saddam's hanging but not this?? On the other hand, perhaps it would be too graphic even for us....

Re: Watkins Glen media tower demolished
Watkins Glen seems to be experiencing a building boom -- in addition to reconstruction of the tower, a new hotel is going up in town. By the looks of it, it will set a new standard for accommodations close to the track (not that the current standard is so tough to beat).
New track facilities, big new hotel ... Hmmm ... could this be the beginning of a WGI bid to recapture the USGP?

Re: Watkins Glen media tower demolished
While Monaco is grandfathered in as the ultimate in lack of runoff I doubt they'd ever sanction a race with all that blue Armco bordering the track... Not that I wouldn't love to see it return there.
